Is sudden death an accident or illness?
Jun 29, 2021 By Edward Weston

For sudden death, many people feel familiar or strange; feeling familiar is because they can often see the news about sudden death, while feeling strange is because they cannot tell whether sudden death is an accident or an illness. When people buy insurance, they pay great attention to the protection of sudden death, but the misunderstanding of sudden death on the insurance level is still very serious. It is recommended to learn something about insurance before you buy it!

Let's take a look at what sudden death is: the World Health Organization (WHO) defines sudden death as: "People who are normally healthy or seem to be healthy will die suddenly due to natural diseases in an unexpectedly short period of time.” In other words, sudden death is actually a death due to disease in a short period of time. There are two key factors: 1. in a short time; 2. death due to disease.

At present, there is no unified standard for the time limit of sudden death. Let's take a look at the recognition in the medical field:

---In 1979, the International Society of Cardiology and the American Heart Association recognized that sudden death occurs immediately or within 24 hours after the occurrence of acute symptoms.

---WHO defines sudden death as “death within 6 hours of sudden illness.”

---At present, most scholars tend to limit the time of sudden death within 1 hour.
